Description
A small group session on the theme of self forgiveness, facilitated by Sarah Dosanjh.
The philosophy
Our relationship with ourselves shapes the quality of our lives. Many people are stuck in self judgment, holding themselves to a standard they would never apply to anyone else. This group is a place for connection and gentle self enquiry, with a view to practising self forgiveness and self compassion.
The way we feel about our own shortcomings rarely holds up to scrutiny when compared to how we see the same things in other people. Consider how harshly the body gets judged next to how kindly we’d view someone else’s. Or how easily procrastination is criticised in oneself while attracting nothing but understanding when a friend does exactly the same thing. That gap is the reason this work happens in a group rather than alone. Through voicing self judgment out loud, and bearing witness to others doing the same, the gap slowly begins to close.
The structure
The session is semi structured and focused on what you need to forgive. That might be food and body related or something else entirely. You will be asked to come with something in mind that you are struggling to find self forgiveness and compassion for, and there will be plenty of space for sharing and processing. This is not a workshop, and no technique will be taught.
Who it’s for
Anyone who recognises that self judgment is holding them back in life. Anyone who can see that they hold themselves to a different standard than they hold others. Anyone drawn to the idea of connecting with others in a group, and willing to explore what self forgiveness might mean for them.
